KURANDA

Where is Tarzan???

The past week we have been staying with some friends at Kuranda. They own a couple of acres (it could be 20 as you don't see any fence lines) in the Tropical Rainforest. It rains a lot at Kuranda...Lots and lots but it isn't cold and you just drink more anyway. The first problem was birthing Big Bertha into Carl theCarport. Tony manage with Judy and my help of course. 2inches to spare... 1inch either side.

Peter & Judy have their son, Chris, Amanda (Chris's girlfriend)and Anais (exchange student from USA) and JAKE the guard dog living at there jungle five star resort. We settled in quite well.

Judy and Pete played the perfect host. Taking us out into the wilderness and showing us lots of waterfalls and swimming holes in their large mountain.
We went up to the Daintree Village for fish and chips and also to Port Douglas to see how the rich and famous live.
It was a lovely stay at the Kuranda Resort and I must say and I recommend it and can't wait to do it all again..
The problem was the Carl the Carport didn't want Big Bertha to leave. Carl somehow wanted to hug Big Bertha and I think Big Bertha didn't want to leave either.. She now has an extra dimple on her backside....
After leaving the Kuranda Resort, we headed south back to Townsville. We spent the day at the Aquarium. It was a lovely day just looking at all the Great BARRIER Reef has to offer. The coral was spectacular and the fish amazing. Very enjoyable. Tomorrow we are heading west to Charters Towers and we plan to stay there 3 nights. This is an old gold mine town and apparently has a bit of character. That is all to next time when I score a powered site (We have to beat the Mexicans to the sites first - always a challange I must admit- perhaps one day I may phone ahead and book a site???)I really hate to conform!!

The Best Bathrooms at any Place is at Mareeba QLD

We have seen some bathrooms that make me want to use my vans

We are at Mareeba. This is by far the best van park we have stayed in and only $23 for power per night (although the neighbours only paid $20) We tried to stay at three parks before this one and they were all booked out! Yesterday was Cairns Showday and last week was Mareeba Rodeo. Mareeba is on the Atherton Tablelands not far from Karunda. The temperature is 23% at 9.00am. The sky has been always cloudy but it doesn't seem to rain here. Very pleasant.
The first place we wanted to stay at was Paronella Park near Tully. This is a park developed by a guy called Joe Paronella. It has waterfalls, lush tranquility of a mysterious rainforests, a wonderful castle and is powered by Hydro Electricity. They can accomodate 15 vans also but you have to book at least a week in advance. We would like to stay there for at least one night as it looked amazing.
Mareeba is famouse for a place called "Coffee World". It has at least 30 different types of coffee beans for you to taste. It also has 12 different types of chocolates. I tried most of them. mmmmm Also at Mareeba they have hot air balloons. We woke up and looked at three landing in the paddock next door to us. Very pretty site.
We have left the relos yesterday and they have all gine to Cairns to go out on the Reef. They will take a different path to us from now on. We are staying at our friends place, Judy & Pete's, at Kuranda for a week before we head back down to Townsville and then we'll head off to the NT.
The Bulldozer and Big Bertha a travelling well. I don't get to BLOG much when we don't have power, as we save the power on my laptop for watching DVD's at night. (Thanks to Bob!!) We have to have our priorities right.

It is time to hit the road....Catch up later...

TropicaL Queensland!!

I know why everything is so green!

We are at Mission Beach, just below Cairns. It is rainy and blowy. (I hope there isn't a cyclone brewing! ) At least we have Bertha to sleep in and stay dry! I feel sorry for all of the other campers in tents!!!

We have booked in here for 2 nights. Hopefully it will dry out a little soon. After here we will say goodbye to all of the relos that have been travelling with us and we will make our way up to Karunda where we catch up with some old friends who migrated up this way from NEWCASTLE several years ago. Peter & Judy from AFS days....

The Bulldozer and Big Bertha are cruising just fine and I'm still happy to be not at work. This is living!!!

Today we arrived at a place called Seaforth. It is somewhere just below Townsville. We have camped in a park on the beach. Very tropical and the weather is fantastic and a bit sticky. We have now ditched the winter woolies and we have the summer rags out, Big Bertha is travelling well and so is the Bulldozer. We stayed at Fairview last night. The camp ground cooked us a great dinner, supplied country singers and a wonderful camp fire. We met a lovely lot of people that have been camping there for 4 years. They just don't leave. I must admit, we will come back to that one one day.Kate, Jurgen and me at Clearview
