Cable Beach Caravan Park

My second Home

sunny 32 °C

Well we have spent over two weeks here, or is it three? So we are staying another week at least.....
I don't want to move. The weather is perfect and very comfortable. Apparently it is the only place that doesn't have rain, wind or coldness.. So sounds like a winner for me. We still ride our bikes for abount 16 km per day, walk along Cable Beach every afternoon and twice a week we go to the outdoor garden theatre. Everyone in the park puts there used books and magazines in a swap spot, so we always have plenty of reading material around for free. The neighbours are all lovely, mostly from the bottom of WA. There are only a handfull from NSW and there are still lots of Victorian Mexicans here. They seem to do the journey every year also and stay for four or five months as well. I suppose it would be good to live here every year with the same neighbours. Apparently you can book the same site if you come annually. The staff are also lovely. Everytime I exit or enter the park on my bike they always put the boom gate up for me (otherwise it is a bit of a stuggle trying ti manoever the three wheels through the gate.)
We also don't have midgees, mosquitoes or ants to worry about and the bonus is the pool is fantastic and the sea breezes are perfect. There isn't much more you need! So yes we are staying for at least another week!

WA stands fro Wait Awhile

NT stands for Not There......

sunny 28 °C

Dont you love the Aussie Slang....

Life is a lot slower over this way. Less stressful I think we have blended in quite well. We Wait Awhile to get served and it doesn't worry me.

If you want a job, just ask anyone and they will point you to the direction.

There are some lovely pommy backpacker (neighbours) near us. They are selling all of there wordly Australia possessions as they are sadly going home to pommy land next friday. I purchased some great DVD's from them for $1 each... Bargain. Petty I don't need more things... Great tent for $5
and TV - that was tempting but I quite enjoy Tony & I reading novels most of the day. It is good to get away from the Noise Box.. so I think they can give it to someone else. The best garage sale in town. There is a bit of competition happening as the Euro backpackers are doing well too.

The Worlds Oldest Garden Picture Theatre

Established in 1916

sunny 33 °C

We went to the movies again last night to see "Bran Nue Dae', mainly because it was mostly filmed in Broome and in this Theatre. The first scene in the movie is the theatre we are in and it is no different. Every place in the movie we have been to even the church with all of the shells. It is really a beautiful place. The movie "Bran Nue Dae" is on every second night at this old theatre and the it is usually a packed house as tourist from everywhere come to visit and watch it here. We loved it.

Most of our days in Broome begin with an 8 km bike ride to town for good ice coffee and then home again and then we swim, read walk and ride again with a dvd at night time. We meet the neighbours and have a happy hour and cross paths with all of the other gypsies.

There are a few back packers moving on this week so we have lots of sales in the park e.g. dvd's tv's fridges, tent bla bla bla, all selling for $10 each or less.. Bargains everywhere. How much do we really need???

We went to the oldest outside picture theatre to se "Letters to Juliette". Lovely movie. We have run out of ozzie BOBS DVD's. Shame we still have six months to go!!! So we splurged and went to the movies. It is called the Sun Theatre and it is in the middle of town. Next to a nightclub and an airport. The movie started at 6.30 and you need to bring a pillow as the chairs are a sling back outdoor design. The movie started and the raffle was drown at the pub next door, the nightclub music was load and the jets kept landing... Funny - but never mind the old theatre had been here first. They just cranked up the vulume and I'm sure everyone in Broome could hear the movie. I must admit I heard every word of the movie for the very first time in years...
Life is pretty good in Broome. I love the temperture and the people and the swimming, walking and bike riding. It is fairly flat and there are great bike rides around the area. In between all that Tony and I read novels, magazines and think about what we might cook for dinner. I can see us living up here for 6 months of the year when we retire. Why not.....Everyone else does....We booked in for at least another week..

BROOME

lOVE THE PLACE, SHOULD STAY HERE FOREVER??

sunny 30 °C

Love everything about Broome. Love the caravan Park even if it does have over 500 sites. Love the temperature, about 30 degrees during the day and comfortable at night. Pool is great. Love walking along Cable Beach every evening and watching the camels all dressed in their best walking. Love talking to all of the Backpackers who work in the caravan Park. We shouted Johnny from England and Nora from Norway a coffee break today.I was really tempted to go and get a job today.... But why??? Why work???? Tony thought he would fix it and shouted me a lottery ticket!!! He said then we could have a winter house in Broome. Good idea hey!

You Never, Never Know unless you Never, Never Go!

Katherine hot Springs

sunny 32 °C

We are still at The Big 4 At Katherine. Very homely indeed.

Katherine Hot Springs at our back door!

Katherine Hot Springs at our back door!

We hop on our bikes every morning and ride 1 km to the Hot Springs. We spend the morning there talking to all the other Vaners until lunch time then we come back home for a dip in the pool and happy hour. Life is tuff but someone has to do it.

We did our bit for the nation and voted at Katherine by postal vote.

After voting we thought we should pick up some alcohole. The shop opens at 2.15pm daily and closes at 6.00pm. It was 2.10 and there were 50 people waiting for it to open. Tony waited in the car for me while I went in for 2 casks of wine. White for me and red for cooking and Tony. I search the shop for casks and all I could fine was 4 tyupes of 2 litre ones!! That is all you have to choose from. So I picked up one white and one red. The end of the queue to pay for it was in the cool room. The fifty people were all in front of me. I;m on holidays so what does it matter.. I meet some lovely travellers in the queue anyway. After 20 mins of waiting, this young 20 yo guy said Lady you have to choose which wine cask you want, you aren't allowed 2!!! Why?? It is the NT law!!! I want to drink the white and cook with the red. You can buy the white if you choose but if you want more wine you can buy as many bottles as you want, just not more cask wine. I asked him if I could buy one cask and put it in the car and come back and buy the other. He said NO as you have to give me your drivers licence and I scan it into the NT data base and register you buying a cask of wine today. This stops all other purchases untill tomorrow.! Bazaar!!! So he escorted me around the shop and I purchased a bottle of Merlot for cooking and a bottle of Burbon to add to the coke we have. I not going into another grog shop in the NT while I'm here. ( I don't want my name on the register anymore....
