The Worlds Oldest Garden Picture Theatre

Established in 1916

sunny 33 °C

We went to the movies again last night to see "Bran Nue Dae', mainly because it was mostly filmed in Broome and in this Theatre. The first scene in the movie is the theatre we are in and it is no different. Every place in the movie we have been to even the church with all of the shells. It is really a beautiful place. The movie "Bran Nue Dae" is on every second night at this old theatre and the it is usually a packed house as tourist from everywhere come to visit and watch it here. We loved it.

Most of our days in Broome begin with an 8 km bike ride to town for good ice coffee and then home again and then we swim, read walk and ride again with a dvd at night time. We meet the neighbours and have a happy hour and cross paths with all of the other gypsies.

We went to the oldest outside picture theatre to se "Letters to Juliette". Lovely movie. We have run out of ozzie BOBS DVD's. Shame we still have six months to go!!! So we splurged and went to the movies. It is called the Sun Theatre and it is in the middle of town. Next to a nightclub and an airport. The movie started at 6.30 and you need to bring a pillow as the chairs are a sling back outdoor design. The movie started and the raffle was drown at the pub next door, the nightclub music was load and the jets kept landing... Funny - but never mind the old theatre had been here first. They just cranked up the vulume and I'm sure everyone in Broome could hear the movie. I must admit I heard every word of the movie for the very first time in years...
Life is pretty good in Broome. I love the temperture and the people and the swimming, walking and bike riding. It is fairly flat and there are great bike rides around the area. In between all that Tony and I read novels, magazines and think about what we might cook for dinner. I can see us living up here for 6 months of the year when we retire. Why not.....Everyone else does....We booked in for at least another week..

Broome sounds just like I imagined it to be, it is a place I will definately get to eventually. Bruce says "one day"! I think I have an affinity with it and it sounds like you do too. Is that the theatre that was used in Bran Nue Dae? Lots of love M & B
